AJ1 Retro Bred “Banned” (2016)
The Shoe the NBA Tried to Stop
In 1985, the NBA fined Michael Jordan $5,000 every game for wearing the black and red Air Jordan 1 because it violated the league’s uniform policy. Nike paid every fine and turned the controversy into the most successful marketing campaign in sneaker history. The Jordan 1 Retro Bred Banned 2016 (555088-001) brought that shoe back in September 2016 with an “X” stamped on the heel and “BANNED” printed on the hang tag. Black leather upper with Varsity Red on the Swoosh, outsole, collar lining, and tongue label. White midsole.
The 2016 release was one of the largest Jordan 1 drops in history, but pairs still moved fast. Leather quality was solid, smooth and firm with a slight tumble on the black panels. The red Swoosh against the black upper is the most iconic color pairing in sneaker history. No additional text needed. Standard AJ1 High sizing.
