The original Pro Varsity Red dropped in 2002 as one of the earliest Foamposite Pro colorways. Nike brought it back in 2016 under a slightly tweaked name. Foamposite Pro University Red, style code 624041-604, released April 16 2016 at $230. Glossy University Red Foam shell, black jewel Swoosh on the lateral, black nubuck eyestay, black tongue and pull tabs.

The 2016 retro shifted the shade slightly more saturated than the 2002 original and the metallic finish reads a bit deeper. Black laces, black outsole. The carbon fiber shank plate stays visible underfoot. A bold pair that does not try to hide behind subtlety.
