1990 vs 2016 vs 2025: Three Eras of Black Metallic

The Jordan 5 Black Metallic Reimagined is Jordan Brand’s latest Reimagined entry, released February 8, 2025 at $210 under style code HF3975-001. The original 1990 Black Metallic was what MJ wore during his second playoff run. Black nubuck upper, Fire Red inner lining and shark teeth, Metallic Silver reflective tongue, translucent outsole. The 2016 Remastered version stayed faithful. This 2025 edition adds two things: reflective 3M piping along every panel edge and white laces as the default set.

The white laces are a nod to how Jordan himself swapped his laces on court. Against the all-black upper, they create a sharper contrast than the stock black laces from prior releases. The 3M piping is subtle in normal light. You barely notice it. Hit them with flash or car headlights, and every panel edge lights up. Nubuck is dense, matte black, same quality as previous versions. Fire Red on the tongue Jumpman and lining. Nike Air in white on the heel. AJ5 fit runs roomy.
